In this project I am exploring the
historic representation of people belonging to an ethnic minority. During the Victorian period there were very
few photographs or paintings of wealthy black people or people from minority
ethnic backgrounds who were seen as upper class. Inspired by the work of artists such
as Yinka Shonibare, Ingrid Pollard and Lorna Simpson, I have placed people from
different ethnic backgrounds into recognisable settings of power and wealth.
